DIGITAL TYPOGRAPHY-WEEK 3

For this week we learned about different types of typography and its creators. I learned the difference between fonts and typography. The process of creating your own typography and the importance of emphasis, color, size, punctuation and kerning. It is important to know the roles these features play in the message you want to deliver through your lettering. Sometimes when using certain typefaces, it will interpret a word in a different manner than you might've intended when using the incorrect font or typeface. Here are some examples on how choosing the correct typeface can deliver the message you aspire to send.

DIGITAL TYPOGRAPHY-WEEK 1

Hello, my name is Arlena Ruiz. This is my first week of Digital Typography. I don't know too much about typography other than it does make a difference in how you choose to use it to express yourself. I've learned that typography plays a big part in advertising. With typography you can take a picture, ad, or project and make it look fun, bubbly, or loud by using different font colors, sizes, making it bold, underlining it and by using punctuations or where you decide to place the font. For this week's assignment I chose the movie poster for She's all that. It's a early 2000's movie. The font they used for this movie gives it a girly, bubbly look.

FINAL WEEK OF DIGITAL TYPOGRAPHY

For my final week of typography, I got to produce my own typeface. After weeks of drafting different types of fonts. I decided to produce a serif typeface and called it Curve Serif. The name came from the curvy lettering I designed. I used an app called Calligraphr it was very easy to navigate.  This by far was my favorite project. I made a typeface that was fun and funky, it wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed the assignment. Below I am attaching my final template from Calligraphr and my final project poster for my Typeface. Digital typography taught me that using the correct typeface, color and size can tell different stories. Typography can give different meanings to the messages we try to send. It is more than just words it makes a product, and it's a way of expressing yourself. This class was very knowledgeable, and it taught me the importance of typography.

WEEK 4 of DIGITAL TYPOGRAPHY

For this week of typography, I decided to upload my resubmitted poster for my Poster Design assignment. For my assignment I chose to go with Claude Garamond's typeface. I like how his typeface is clear and kind of simple, yet it looks elegant. I've also been paying attention to different types of fonts, and typography. For my second example I am attaching a picture of a XXXtra Hot Cheetos bag. Flamin chips are my favorite, and I snack on them often. The fonts used for the bag are bold and fun. The logo seems to be a serif type of typeface. Since I tend to snack on chips a lot I've been analyzing the fonts on the bags, colors, and design.
